We did it! We left around 5:30 yesterday morning and headed to the mountain. The first 2 miles of the trek was pretty much a nice stroll through the woods. But, right after we broke out of the timberline, and the hike got tougher, it started pouring. The rest of the climb was pretty much a scramble or hiking up loose, ashy, soil. The last bit of the hike was the hardest - very steep & the soil was just really mushy, so it was a tough. Once we made it to the summit & could see over the rim of the crater, the view was stunning. Here are some pictures...

On the way down, we came across a guy who had rolled his ankle & his friends had gone on without him, so he asked if he could go down with us. We obviously said that he could, so it ended up taking us a bit longer than it would have if we would have been able to go at a normal pace. It was fine though - we were both glad to be able to help out.
I was pretty sore today, but got a massage at lunch & then went to the gym tonight to keep myself moving. Surprisingly, it felt pretty good.
Mission accomplished. Next one on the list - Mt. Adams.
